Concept
Title sequence design for the book The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. The book is filled with heavy symbolism and metaphor; rather than relying on those elements I wanted to capture the tone of ethereal mystery which permeates throughout the story. As well as visually conveying the reading experience of falling through the narrative as it unfolds instead of aggressively pushing from one scene into the next. In the title sequence I wanted to do something similar to the foreshadowing Morgenstern engages with by alluding to future imagery that will grow in meaning over the course of the film/show for the audience. I also researched negative reviews of the book so that through the title sequence I could grab the attention of those who felt similarly and convince them to watch further.
